5 Books Every Woman Should Read

1Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austin

A thorough classic comedy of errors with wit and charm to conjure your womanly pride. A taste of a conventional and orthodox system of marriage where a wealthy man’s pride spars prejudiced woman’s valor. How it is of exceeding importance for an affluent man to search a good wife. It showcases the evils of hasty judgments. And how the wealthy riches may be perceived during Victorian times. The way Jane Austin has worded this classic piece of art, makes is an interaction all of us have within and with others every day. The very portrayal of woman in the novel instills shivers in us. How limited education and vague options decided a woman’s fate. And how the idea of “staying a single woman” was perceived.

The most important moral I derived from it, “when you fall in love , be humble and don’t judge”

2To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee

It is a legendary novel from the strands of small-town life. How a 6 year old protagonist refuses to accept the social extortion, based on gender and inequality. This female icon is an inspiration for woman even today, to stand by your rights and your opinions. How racial discrimination affects the society and how prejudice rules innocence. It is a slapstick write up from a 6 year old girl’s point of view and grapples with her experiences with social stigma that prevails.

3The Diary of A Young Girl , by Anne Frank

All our pleasure, anxiety, apprehension, passion, desire and infatuations shape up into what we are. It is by far the most empathetic and charismatic book I have read so far. It is an eloquent testament of woman spirit. This was written when Anne Frank was in hiding during the Nazi conquest of Germany. As a teenager what were her aspirations and how war affected her very outlook towards life. How fear of death and discovery by the Nazi added gripping anecdotes to two precious years of her life. Her consciousness and associations with fellow girls and boys were, and how boredom and the threat of being in the hiding kept oscillating her on an emotional roller coaster.

4Matilda, by Ronald Dahl

Matilda is a story of a gifted young girl disregarded by her family. An extremely bright geek, she has almost magical powers. Her strength and acumen is supported by her teacher and she becomes an independent person, taking full charge of her own life. It teaches how a girl, ignored by her own family can accelerates though her life. Matilda has a self driven system where the feeling of anger and hatred are substituted with her intelligence and patience. People may not value you and not identify your true potential but that doesn’t stop you from spearheading the heights of success and happiness. It is not how others perceive, but how strong-willed you are, that drive you towards excellence.

5Bossypants, by Tina Fey

A stand apart work of non-fiction. One of the most hilarious works of recent time. Since it is an auto-biography, it progresses chronologically with bold instances. Tina Fey as a former head writer for SNL has the perfect melange of facile words and sketchy humor covering most critical feminism issues prevalent, that make it a worthy read. She has touched upon the buzzwords like body shaming and feminism so critically and yet with added humor. Her verbatim narration of female vulnerabilities and making an intriguing statement has made this book a must read for all woman.
